Katy at home

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up the other; but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help. Again, if two lie together, they keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone? And though one might prevail against another, two will withstand one. A threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Katy came home today, about 1:00, along with all her helpers, Patty, Rick, Lenny, Amy and Heather. How strange that all these terribly difficult procedures and some recuperation have all been in just one week. The challenge in this past week, is in understanding it, feeling it, living with it. These loved ones are very tired.

Katy is sleeping a little better right now than when she first came home. She is somewhat disoriented and there is still some spatial orientation confusion, which goes with her equilibrium trouble. She was very nauseated this morning, which was a little better yesterday.

Yet, she is very glad to be home in her own bed, even though her bed feels weird for some reason. She is still exhausted and it isn’t time for visitors yet. When she is feeling better, the visits will be the best thing for her. But right now she needs to make the transition. She is so happy to be back in her own home.

On Tuesday she’ll go to the neuro-oncologists office to have chemo through her reservoir at his office, which will then happen every two weeks. The temedor will be once a month also.

She’ll see the rehab doctor in about two or three weeks, to measure improvements and to do some work on areas that need a little adjustment. The rehab doctor will probably have her see an ophthalmologist. Her eyes haven’t settled down yet.

PRAY
Pray against this nausea, and for strength, that her eyes would settle down.

It is our earnest prayer that Katy will get stronger, and that this chemo won’t knock her out. She has a great deal of medicine sensitivity. She needs to regain her strength to battle on the next front.

There is not a final pathology report … we will let you know when it is in.

Dear Katy, Patty, Rick, Amy, Lenny, Kit, and all,

Patty, it was so good to hear your voice yesterday. I was so glad to hear that Katy is home. We will pray, an inch at a time, it seems.

For some reason, this is the verse that is going through my head just now...."The Lord is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation; This is my God, and I will praise Him; My father's God, and I will extol Him. The Lord is a warrior: The LORD is His name."--Exodus 15:2-3.

Love, Miriam :)

I am so glad you all got home. I am praying for each day to get better and for Katy to feel "more like herself", which will bring you all a measure of peace also!
I also pray that in the midst of this challenge, you will know the joy of Jesus' birth and how that can bring comfort and peace...and laughter!
Love, Sher

Hello All -

Thinking of all of you, and so thankful that Katy is home, especially for the Christmas holiday. I have to tell you that I know John David has been praying for Katy. John gets up everyday at 4:30 to be at work by 6:00 (sounds like Gramps, huh?), so this past Saturday, he was wide awake at 5:00 a.m. Because I was not quite ready to get up, I suggested he just lay there and pray for his cousin Katy, and he took my advice. He will be happy to know that a portion of his prayer was heard. And, we are trusting all our prayers surrounding Katy's healing will be answered in due time.

Merry Christmas to you all!
Love - Beth

Dear Reel Family,

When we first heard about this we were just devistated, my first question is why Lord? Why Katy? This can test our faith so much, and we whine about our issues here in our family and it does not even remotely compare. You strength is such a witness to us and to so many others. We want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and we pray daily for your complete healing.

Blessing to you,
Tom and Karen Neal and family

Dear Katy and Reel Family,
We have been following events via the blog and we have kept you in our hearts and prayers. Last Sunday our whole church prayed for your healing and for strength for your family. (Yes Rick the Tab Pastor would fit in well here, but unfortunately for us he seems happy at Tab).
Christmas must seem like a really rotten time to be ill-as if there is ever a good time. But Christmas is the season of hope and miricles and we believ that there are lots of reasons for hope and that miricles will happen for you and your family.
We are off today to celebrate Christmas and New Years with Gregg and his family in Chicago and New Years with Todd and his family in Sun Valley, but our thoughts and prayers will be with you. The whole Johnston clan is rooting for you.
After you are feeling better we have a deck chair waiting for you on our balcony and a cabana (with optional cabana boy) reserved for you at the Jonathon Club. (Amy, these options are open to you if you ever send me your specifications)
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Love, Uncle Chuck and Aunt Sue

A DAY OF PRAYER FOR KATY AND ALL THE REELS

Where: McKee Chapel, Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, 418 E. 34th St., Indianapolis, Indiana (NW corner of 34th St. and Central Ave.)

When: Tuesday, December 27, 2005, 8:30/8:45 a.m.(when the church opens) until 5 p.m.

Bloggers and others in the Indy area are invited to drop in to the church any time of the day during the "open" hours to pray in the Chapel for Katy and the family. Stay for as long or as short a time as you have. From 3:30 to 5:00 in the afternoon, Kirsten Guidero will lead a special time of prayer in the Parlor, with help from Ann Reynolds. We will have an updated prayer list from Patty available for praying.

If you are not in the area, or can't make it, just pray wherever you are.

Questions or for directions, etc., please call me or Kirsten at 317-842-2884 (leave a message if we don't pick up right away). Hope to see you many of you there, weather permitting, of course!

************

So good to hear from Aunt Sue and Uncle Chuck (I got to meet Uncle Chuck at Frenchy's memorial service)! I heard you all had the flu, and I trust you are all recovered by now.

God bless each of you, and a joyous Christmas to you, as we celebrate God's love to us.

Love, Miriam
PS The prayer service is Kirsten's idea, to give credit where credit is due!

Dear Katy, Patty, Rick and family,
Thank you so much for the update on the news. There is no place like home! You continue to be in my prayers and I am so glad Tab will have a special prayer service. Thankfully, my work schedule for that day will allow me to participate in the service.

I encourage all of you to take turns in taking a break to refresh your souls and as the song goes, may the Lord bring "times of refreshing" to your souls!

Dearest Katy, Rick, Patty, Lenny & Amy;

So glad to hear that Katy is home. It is always nice to be able to recuperate in the comfort of your own home tended to by loved ones.

Katy, love surrounds you from all four corners of the world. We have several prayer chains in South Florida praying for you to recover completely. I believe God will cure you and make you well again. Your strength and courage are an inspiration to us all.

God bless all of you...Have a Merry Christmas and may the new year bring you good health and happiness.

All Our Love Forever and Ever...

"Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced..." (I Chr. 16:8-12).

Katy and all Reels, I confess that I have trouble getting my mind around being joyful and strong in the midst of serious illness or other threats. But when I review all that God has done, even just in my life and in the lives of others I have known, my faith is bolstered.

My prayers are for healing of Katy's eyes, that the nausea will go away, that she will gain the strength with which to fight and to tolerate the chemo. My prayer for all of you around her is the gift of great faith in our loving Father and the ability to rest in Him. May you all have peace of mind and heart that the world cannot give.

I've never met you, and yet, I wish I could wrap my arms around you all and make it all better!
-------------------
Kirsten, I would ask in an e-mail, but in case I'm not the only one at a distance, who wants to know...can you please let us know what you have planned for the late afternoon prayer time, next Tuesday? I would be grateful.
